One Year Old!

We survived the first year and are now the proud parents of a one year old. It's hard to believe that he's one already... where has the time gone? He has done so much over the past few months. He is not just walking, he's running. He has two teeth with a third popping in. He claps, waves and does "touchdown". He has also started holding one finger up for "I'm Number One". He'll give kisses when you ask him to (and sometimes hugs) and we're teaching him how to blow kisses. He says all sorts of words, mama, dada, mum, hi, wow, oh, yeah, uh oh, all done - of course none of it on command or around lots of people... he gets shy. He has started to get upset when Mommy or Daddy leave the room and has decided that he can live solely on eggs, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and grilled cheese forever.

He has SUCH a personality and can be very strong willed - which means... temper tantrums. These usually occur in his high chair and revolve around whatever food has been placed in front of him that he doesn't want. We are working on breaking this habit ASAP. He loves to play and go for walks. He especially loves the park and climbing on all the structures. It's getting harder and harder to take him out places as he just wants to get down and run all the time.

Tonight was his first birthday celebration just with Mommy and Daddy. We had cupcakes with a one candle, we sang and let him have at it. Took him a couple minutes but once he realized he could eat it and it was good - he went to town! When he was done, he was laughing, clapping and screeching (his new thing when he's REALLY happy). It was a good way to end his first birthday - we are very much looking forward to his party on Saturday!!

It's amazing how fast he's growing and he makes us smile every day. This past year has been an adjustment but we wouldn't trade it for the world. He is the best kid any parents could ask for and we look forward to the coming years and all he will accomplish. In the meantime, take a look at this little montage of his first year:
